Bali Resort Retractable Pool Enclosure

Project Overview

A boutique resort in Seminyak required a retractable enclosure for its 11m x 20m outdoor pool to maintain guest comfort during the wet season while keeping the open-air tropical feel during dry months. The SP-SR-MOV sliding glass panel system was selected for its ability to open completely (stacking panels to one end) and fully enclose during rain events. The system comprises 8 sliding bays of 2,500mm each, spanning the full pool length with a 3,200mm eave height.

The Challenges

The tropical environment presented three key challenges. First, the corrosive salt-air and pool-chemical atmosphere required 316 stainless steel tracks and all-weather EPDM brush seals at every panel junction. Second, the resort required near-silent motorized operation to maintain the luxury ambiance — a low-RPM motor with sound-insulated casing was specified. Third, the local planning authority imposed a strict 4m maximum structure height, requiring the structural engineer to optimize the ridge beam depth to stay within the permitted envelope.

The Results

The enclosure was commissioned in October 2023, ahead of the wet season. Resort records show pool occupancy increased from an average of 18 guest-visits per day during the wet season the prior year to 61 guest-visits per day in the same period after installation. The property's review score rose by 0.4 points, with multiple reviews specifically citing the all-weather pool experience. The project has since become Sunriseperity's reference case for hospitality retractable enclosure proposals across Southeast Asia.
